10th Maths - Chapter 1: Relations and Functions (Study Materials)
Key Definitions and Formulae
Cartesian Product: If A and B are two non-empty sets, then the set of all ordered pairs (a, b) such that a belongs to A and b belongs to B is called the Cartesian product of A and B.
Formula: A x B = {(a, b) | a belongs to A, b belongs to B}.
Cardinality: n(A x B) = n(A) x n(B).
Relations: A relation R from A to B is a subset of the Cartesian product A x B.
Functions: A relation f from A to B is a function if every element in the domain A has a unique image in the co-domain B.
Composition of Functions: (f o g)(x) = f(g(x)).
Note: Composition of functions is generally not commutative (f o g != g o f), but it is associative.
